Being Alone...
This weekend Johnny leaves on a long business trip. He'll be gone almost three weeks and I'm happy that he's able to go. I really am. It will help him to further his skills in his new profession (after being laid off in his old aerospace one).
I'm also feeling a bit selfish about his absence, for I've pretty much isolated myself here in California, relying on phone calls (to and from family and faraway friends) and the Internet for outside companionship.
So, yes, I am feeling a bit sad right now, and I'll need to make a concerted effort not to be... for that sometimes leads me on an even sadder non self-reflecting pathway.

Coincidentally, I'll be traveling to California for three weeks. ;)
(Kidding, Johnny, kidding!) Hang in there, Cyn.
Thanks, 'Loot. :-)
LOL Galoot! Behave yourself! ;-)
Well, I'm both looking forward and not looking forward to this trip.
This is an educational trip. I'll be attending a three week course at a major wide format printer company's "University" in Virginia. I will be THE factory authorized service technician for our region.
This is a huge deal. I've only been with this company (and occupation) since August 2003. They apparently have a lot of confidence in me. This will also directly affect future raises in pay. I've been as far west as Tahiti and as far east as Prague, but I have never set foot east of the Mississippi in North America.
The parts I'm not looking forward to...
Cyn can't come with me. :-(
I will be gone for almost three weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
It was last minute and I hate that.
I have to fork over a few hundred bones to get ready for this trip. I will expense it, but it would have been nice to get a big advance for this stuff.
With the Feds' perception that the boogieman is lurking around every corner, air travel is no fun anymore. We're all treated like criminals at the airports and now getting "felt up" by security.
Yeah... fun.
Did I mention that I will not be able to take Cyn with me?
I'm not looking forward to being alone for 18 days.
I'll have my new laptop, webcam, and cell phone with me, so at least we can talk and "see" each other.
Yes, that will be great fun. (The least they could do is "spring for" my ticket and a hotel near you for all those weeks... oh, and a rental car, too.) ;-)
